Farm Roads
Tracks and Yards That Stand Up to Farm Traffic
Farm roads take loads most private roads never see. A loaded grain trailer, a feed lorry or a telehandler carrying bales puts heavy weight through a narrow tyre, and a track built on a thin layer of stone soon ruts, potholes and holds water. Mud and loose stone then get carried out onto the public road.
SN Enterprises Ltd, based at Boundary Farm near Bedworth, surfaces farm tracks, yards and access roads across the Midlands. The starting point is always the construction depth: digging out soft ground and building a sub-base deep enough for your heaviest vehicle. On top of that you can choose tarmac for yards and busy routes, or tar and chip surface dressing for longer tracks where the cost per metre matters most.
Work is planned around the farming calendar where possible, so a yard is not out of action at harvest or while stock is being moved. Sections can be done in turn to keep a way through for machinery.

Why choose us
Why farms choose SN Enterprises

Construction depth is set by the heaviest vehicle on your farm, so the track copes with a loaded trailer and not just a car.
Honest on surface choice
You get a straight comparison of tarmac and tar and chip for each part of the farm, so the money goes where the traffic is.

How the job runs
How we surface a farm track or yard
- 1
Step 01
Walk the route
We walk the track or yard with you, note the heaviest vehicles using it, find the soft spots and wet areas, and talk through tarmac against tar and chip.
- 2
Step 02
Plan around the farm
Timings are agreed around harvest, livestock movements and deliveries, and the work is split into sections if you need a route kept open throughout.
- 3
Step 03
Excavate and build
Soft ground is dug out, a sub-base is laid and compacted to suit the loads, drainage goes in, and then the chosen surface is applied on top.
- 4
Step 04
Check and hand back
We check the finished levels run water off the surface, clear any spoil you do not want kept, and go over the route with you before leaving.

Pricing
What affects the cost of a farm road
Farm tracks are often long, so the choice of surface and the depth of construction make the biggest difference to the price.
Get a fixed written quote- 01
Length and width
A long track costs more in materials and time, and widening it for two-way traffic or larger machinery increases the area to build.
- 02
Ground conditions
Clay, soft or waterlogged ground needs deeper excavation and more sub-base than firm, free-draining land, and the survey is where that shows up.
- 03
Tarmac or tar and chip
Tar and chip usually costs less per metre on long runs, while tarmac suits yards where vehicles turn tightly and wear the surface harder.
- 04
Drainage and entrances
Cross drains, soakaways and a sealed entrance where the track meets the public road are priced as separate items so you can prioritise them.
