Paths & Paving

Local Paths and Paving Nationwide

A well-laid path or patio makes a place easier and safer to move around, from the route between a car park and reception to the terrace behind a family home. We lay footpaths, pathways, patios and block paving for commercial and domestic clients across the Midlands, with curved or straight designs set out to suit the space and your budget.

Natural stone gives the most character. We work with sandstone, limestone, granite and slate, each with its own colour range, texture and upkeep, and we help you choose the one that fits the look you want and the wear it will get. Block paving and concrete flags offer a hard-wearing alternative in a wide choice of patterns.

Existing paving can often be brought back rather than replaced. We clean and restore tired patios, paths, driveways and slabbed areas, resetting loose or sunken units so the surface sits level again.

Why choose us

Why choose SN Enterprises for paving

  • Base first, stone second

Most paving problems start underneath. We put the effort into excavation and compaction so slabs and blocks stay level instead of rocking or sinking.

  • Stone from trusted suppliers

Our natural stone and block paving comes from established suppliers, so you get consistent colour, sizing and quality across the whole area.

  • Over 20 years of experience

Two decades laying hard surfaces means sensible advice on patterns, falls and materials, based on how your path or patio will actually be used.

  • Respectful, vetted team

Our team is DBS checked and keeps the site tidy, which matters when we are working at your home or around your staff and visitors.

  • Guaranteed and insured

All our work is guaranteed and backed by £10 million public liability insurance, alongside SafeContractor Gold accreditation for commercial clients.

How the job runs

From first visit to finished paving

  • 1

    Step 01

    Design and survey

We measure the area, check levels and drainage, and help you settle on the stone or block, the pattern and the shape that suit your space.

  • 2

    Step 02

    Excavate and prepare

The area is dug out to the right depth, edges are set and a compacted sub-base is laid, so the paving stays level under years of foot traffic.

  • 3

    Step 03

    Lay the paving

Stones or blocks are bedded and laid to the agreed pattern, with a gentle fall built in so rainwater runs off instead of pooling on the surface.

  • 4

    Step 04

    Joint and finish

Joints are filled with sand or mortar to suit the material, the paving is cleaned down and the site is cleared before you take it over.

What affects the cost of paving

Your quote follows a free visit, because the material and the ground beneath make the biggest difference.

Get a fixed written quote
  • 01

    Choice of material

Natural stones vary in cost, with granite and some slates at the upper end, while concrete blocks and flags usually cost less per square metre.

  • 02

    Size and shape

The total area matters, and so does the design. Curves, borders and intricate patterns take more cutting and more time than a straight rectangle.

  • 03

    Ground preparation

Removing old paving, turf or soil and building a new sub-base adds to the job, and poor ground may need a deeper dig before paving starts.

  • 04

    Restoration or replacement

Cleaning and relaying existing paving is often cheaper than starting again, depending on how many units are cracked, stained or need replacing.

FAQs

Paths and paving questions

Which natural stone is best for a patio?

It depends on the look you want and how much care you are happy to give it. Sandstone has warm, varied colours and a riven texture. Limestone is smoother and paler. Granite is very dense and hard-wearing, which suits busy paths. Slate has a sleek, dark finish. We talk you through the options at the survey so you can compare them against your property.

Can you restore my existing paving instead of replacing it?

Often, yes. If the slabs or blocks are sound, cleaning removes dirt, moss and staining, and loose or sunken units can be lifted, rebedded and relaid level. Joints are then refilled to lock everything in place. If a large share of the paving is cracked or the base has failed, relaying may be better value, and we will be straightforward with you about which applies.

Why do some patios sink or rock after a few years?

Usually the problem is underneath. A thin or poorly compacted sub-base, soft ground or water sitting under the paving lets individual slabs move. We dig out to a firm formation, lay and compact the base, and set a slight fall across the surface so rain drains off. That preparation is what keeps a new path or patio flat for the long term.

Do you lay paths and paving for businesses as well as homes?

Yes. Alongside garden paths and patios, we lay footpaths and pedestrian routes for offices, schools, retail units and industrial sites across the Midlands and beyond. On commercial jobs, our SafeContractor Gold accreditation, DBS checked team and £10 million public liability insurance make approval simple, and paving can be combined with kerbing, drainage or tarmac work under one quote.

Is block paving or natural stone better for a path?

Both work well when laid on a sound base. Block paving is uniform, easy to repair by lifting individual blocks and comes in many colours and patterns, which makes it popular for larger areas. Natural stone costs more but offers a character and variation that concrete cannot match. The right choice depends on your budget, the style of the property and the foot traffic expected.
