Telford School Playground Resurfacing Experts

A playground surface has to cope with heavy daily use, frost and the odd delivery vehicle, and still feel smooth underfoot. Where the base is sound, we plane or clean the old surface, apply a bond coat and lay a fine, close-textured tarmac that is comfortable to play on. Where it has failed, we dig out and rebuild the sub-base first.

The new surface is laid to gentle falls so rainwater drains away rather than pooling, which cuts down on slips and winter ice.

Playground Tarmac Repair Services Telford

Not every playground needs resurfacing. Potholes, raised edges around drain covers and cracked sections can be cut out and patched, and sunken areas levelled, removing trip hazards for far less than a full resurface. The survey shows whether repairs will hold or whether the base is failing.

Repairs take less time than a resurface, so they are easier to fit around the school timetable in Telford.

What affects the cost of playground tarmac surfacing in Telford

School surfacing is quoted per site after a free survey, and the scope can be split across budget years if that helps. Your Telford quote lists each of these, so you can see where the money goes.

Get a fixed written quote

01
Existing surface condition
A sound playground may only need an overlay, while areas with broken edges, tree root damage or a failed base need excavating first.
02
Sports or play use
Courts and MUGAs need a flatter, more even finish than a general playground, which means extra preparation and care in laying.
03
Markings required
A few games markings cost far less than full court lines for several sports, so the marking plan is priced as its own item.
04
Access and timing
Narrow gates, access through buildings or term-time working with extra fencing all add time compared with an open site in the holidays.

FAQs

Frequently Asked Questions about Playground Tarmac Surfacing in Telford

When is the best time to resurface a school playground?

School holidays are the usual choice, because the area can be closed completely and the new surface has time to settle before pupils return. Smaller repairs can often fit into a half-term or a weekend. Holiday periods fill up, so it helps to arrange the survey well ahead of the break you have in mind.

Is tarmac a safe surface for a playground?

Tarmac gives a smooth, even, hard-wearing surface that suits running games, ball sports and marked play. Laid with the right falls, it drains quickly and does not hold puddles. It is not an impact-absorbing surface, so it is not the right choice directly under climbing frames or other equipment with a fall height; those areas need a dedicated safety surface.

Can you add games and sports markings after resurfacing?

Yes. Once the tarmac has cured, we can mark out MUGA lines, netball, basketball and football courts, and play markings such as hopscotch, number grids and trails. Thermoplastic is the usual choice outdoors because it is hard-wearing and comes in several colours. Marking straight after resurfacing means the area goes back into use complete.

Are your staff DBS checked?

Yes, our team is DBS checked, and we plan work on school sites so that contractors and pupils are kept apart, with fenced work areas and agreed routes for vehicles. We can send our SafeContractor Gold accreditation and insurance details for your records before work begins.

How much does playground tarmac cost in Telford?

There is no fixed rate, because playgrounds vary so much. The area, the condition of the base, how easily machinery can reach it, any drainage or kerb work and the markings you choose all affect the price. We survey free of charge and give you a written quote you can share with the school's leadership team.
